Is Ghostbusters Cereal Healthy?
If you’re following a healthy diet plan, trying to lose weight, or perhaps you’re pre-diabetic, eating Ghostbusters cereal for breakfast isn’t going to have a positive effect on your health.
The main reason for this is the high sugar content – from cane sugar and corn syrup.
It contains 12 grams of sugar per serving. To put this into perspective, it’s the same as adding 3 teaspoons (or 1 tablespoon) of sugar to your bowl of cereal. That’s a lot, right?
Other not-so-healthy factors to consider are the artificial flavors and synthetic food dyes in this cereal.
It contains Red 40 and Blue 1, which are artificial food colors made from petroleum. Although they give the Ghostbusters marshmallows and corn puffs their animated colors, these kinds of food dyes are known to be carcinogenic and may cause allergies or hyperactivity in children.
You will be happy to know that, like most cereals, this one is fortified with essential vitamins and minerals.
So is Ghostbusters cereal healthy? Unfortuntely not, but it’s great as a treat!
Is Ghostbusters Cereal Gluten-Free?
Ghostbusters cereal is made from ingredients that are naturally gluten-free, with the main ingredient being whole grain corn.
It’s important to note that the box states it ‘may contain wheat ingredients’ since it is made in a factory with other products containing wheat.
So, depending on the severity of your gluten allergy or sensitivity, you may prefer to find a cereal that is certified gluten-free.
Is Ghostbusters Cereal Vegan?
Ghostbusters cereal is not suitable for vegans since it contains gelatin.
Gelatin is an animal-derived protein commonly used in candies, desserts, jelly, and in this case – ghost-shaped marshmallows. (Remember the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?)
Vitamin D3 is also avoided by many vegans. That’s because it is sourced from lanolin, a substance produced by sheep’s wool.
Is Ghostbusters Cereal Keto?
If you’re following a keto diet, you shouldn’t eat this cereal as it contains a high amount of carbohydrates.
A single serving of Ghostbusters cereal has 32 grams of carbs, which exceeds the entire daily quota of carbs on a keto diet. (Those following keto need to stick to 20-30 grams of carbs per day.)
In addition, Ghostbusters cereal is high in refined sugar, which is not considered keto-friendly.
Is Ghostbusters Cereal High in Protein?
The 2 grams of protein found in a single serving of Ghostbusters cereal isn’t much compared to other healthier cereals like Kind Health Grains Clusters (10 grams of protein) or Kashi GO Cinnamon Crisp (13 grams of protein).
Is Ghostbusters Cereal High in Fiber?
One cup of Ghostbusters cereal provides you with 1 gram of fiber. This is a mere 5% of your daily dietary fiber requirement.
Fiber is essential for healthy digestion and keeping you full. If you’re searching for high-fiber cereal, experts recommend popular brands like Post Shredded Wheat or Alpen Muesli.
Where You Can Buy Ghostbusters Cereal
If you’re feeling lucky, you can find a box of General Mills Ghostbusters cereal in the cereal aisle in your local grocery store. For example, Walmart has stock of the cereal, and it’s also available to purchase online there.
Since this long-awaited cereal has been hitting the shelves, it tends to sell out very quickly. You might need to speak to your local grocer about the possibility of them stocking the family-sized Ghostbusters box.
